Marian, my dear, Your mother got her start, with me, in a one-night-only performance of Punch & Judy. We all must start somewhere. You, blessed by the surging wave of internet technology, have debuted much earlier, in an unscripted (or at least it seems so) but no less entertaining show of wonder and song. (I chose to interpret your coos and sounds as singing). I am sorry that your mom was sticking strangely colored sticks and fly swatters in your face to eek out such a show, but this faraway auntie appreciates the many smiles and sounds it elicited (from both you and me). I will write you a longer post later, but let me mention now that I will never forget the exact moment when I talked to your mom and received the news of your arrival into this (the Navajo call it "Glittering") World. It was a most auspicious occasion: I was at the first United States Social Forum, had just picked up my branded tote bag, and was watching tatooed and pierced anarchists roam around inside the Atlanta Marriott Marquis (one day you will appreciate this juxtaposition). Your mom called me, exhausted & elated, and told me you'd arrived. In a way, we'd all arrived that morning - trying to figure out in our own haphazard collective ways of how to make the world a better place ... and then YOU - most definitely an intervention, already improving the world as we know it. So, sweet pea, WELCOME. I will see you soon. **Love you already** Aunt Dana Harpswell, Maine 09.04.07
